Exemption filing

February 15 annually for elderly/disabled real-estate tax relief; Virginia has no general homestead exemption.

Senior relief

Pittsylvania County relief applies to a qualifying primary residence plus up to one acre; applicant must generally be 65+, household income no more than $25,000, and net worth no more than $65,000 excluding the home and one acre. Maximum relief is $450; permanently/totally disabled applicants may qualify with required certification. The 2026 application deadline is February 15.

Valuation limits

General reassessment occurs every four years; property is assessed at 100% fair market value and no general local annual valuation cap was verified.
