- 2026 real-estate bills will be mailed after the tax rate is approved on June 1, 2026; no specific mailing date was published.
- Payment deadline
- June 29, 2026 for the delayed 2026 real-estate billing, and December 5, 2026 for the second installment; the Treasurer page states the ordinary schedule is June 5 and December 5.
- Rate information
- $0.50 per $100 of assessed value for calendar year 2026; the county’s 2026 budget materials identify the rate as the adopted rate after reassessment.

Halifax relief applies to qualifying residents age 65+ or permanently/totally disabled who own and occupy the property; gross combined income may not exceed $22,000 and net worth may not exceed $60,000 excluding the house and one acre. Contact 434-476-3314 for the current application cycle.
Valuation limits
Virginia requires assessment at 100% of fair-market value; Halifax performs biennial reassessments. No general local annual valuation cap was verified; land-use valuation and tax relief are separate programs.
