- Payment deadline
- Real-estate taxes are due June 5 and December 5 on the City's recurring semiannual schedule.
- Assessment appeal
- July 1–September 1, 2026 for 2026 real-estate assessment appeals under the official appeal procedures.
- Rate information
- $1.18 per $100 of assessed value for FY2026 and FY2027; the City budget maintains the rate effective July 1, 2026.

Newport News elderly/disabled real-estate tax deferral: age 65 by December 31 of the preceding year or permanently/totally disabled; combined income up to $50,000 and assets up to $200,000 excluding the residence; annual application window January 1–August 31.
Valuation limits
The City assesses annually at fair market value for the following July 1 fiscal year; no general local annual valuation cap was verified.
