Exemption filing

May 1, 2026 for new applicants' notarized real-estate tax-relief applications; annual applications are filed with the Commissioner of the Revenue.

Senior relief

For 2026, age 65+ or totally disabled permanent Surry residents may qualify for up to a $1,500 deduction on the dwelling and up to one acre, with household income up to $55,000 and net worth up to $150,000 excluding the dwelling and one acre.

Valuation limits

No general local annual valuation cap verified. Virginia real estate is assessed at 100% fair-market value under applicable state law; qualifying land-use and relief programs are separate from a valuation cap.
