Tax bill mailing
Assessment notices for changes since July 1, 2026 are mailed on or before March 1, 2027; routine 2026 tax-bill mailing date was not verified.
Payment deadline
FY 2026–2027 installments are due September 30, 2026; December 31, 2026; March 31, 2027; and June 5, 2027.
Assessment appeal
Administrative review is available throughout the year; Board of Equalization applications are due March 1–April 1, 2026, with hearings completed by May 31.
Rate information
$1.01 per $100 of assessed value (FY 2026–2027 adopted rate: $1.00 base plus $0.01 mosquito control).

Exemptions & appeals

Exemption filing

January 1–May 15, 2026 for the annual elderly/disabled real-estate tax-relief application.

Senior relief

Chesapeake real-estate tax relief covers owners age 65+ and/or totally/permanently disabled who own and occupy the home, with gross combined income up to $70,000 and net worth up to $350,000 excluding the home and three acres. Annual reapplication is due May 15; relief tiers are 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% by income bands from $0 to $70,000.

Valuation limits

No general annual valuation cap verified; Chesapeake assesses annually at 100% fair market value and handles new construction, additions, and demolitions through supplemental assessments.
