- Payment deadline
- For the 2026 tax year, Missouri real-estate and personal-property taxes are due December 31, 2026; payment must be received or postmarked by December 31 to avoid statutory penalty and interest.
- Assessment appeal
- July 13, 2026 (Jackson County Board of Equalization appeal filing/hearings begin; hearings must conclude by the fourth Saturday in August unless extended); Missouri State Tax Commission complaint is due September 30, 2026, or within 30 days after the Board decision, whichever is later.
Exemptions & appeals
Exemption filing
No general Missouri homestead exemption was verified. Jackson County 2026 personal-property declarations were due March 1, 2026; declarations submitted after May 1 may incur the published statutory penalty.
Senior relief
Jackson County Senior Property Tax Credit Program: applicants must be county residents age 62 or older, own or have a legal/equitable interest in and be liable for taxes on the home, and occupy it as their only primary residence. The application/eligibility year establishes the base tax amount; the credit appears on following-year bills. The official flyer lists an initial application deadline of December 31, and the county says no annual renewal is required unless eligibility is reviewed.
Valuation limits
No general local annual valuation cap was verified. Jackson County’s Senior Property Tax Credit offsets future increases in eligible primary-residence tax liability; it does not cap the assessor’s market or assessed value. Missouri real property is generally reassessed in odd-numbered years with 19% residential, 32% commercial, and 12% agricultural assessment ratios.
For a valuation appeal, use the appeal date in the tax and filing section above. Keep your notice, supporting evidence, and proof of submission.
