Exemption filing

May 1, 2026 for tax-relief applications; hardship extensions for first-time applicants may run to December 31.

Senior relief

Fairfax County relief is available to owners age 65+ or permanently and totally disabled who occupy the home as their sole dwelling. 2026 income limits range from $60,000 to $90,000 for 100%–25% relief, net worth is capped at $400,000 excluding the home/furnishings and up to five acres, and tax deferral is also available under separate $100,000 income/$500,000 net-worth limits.

Valuation limits

No annual valuation cap; Fairfax County states real estate is assessed annually at estimated fair market value as of January 1, and its FAQ says no provision limits year-to-year assessment changes.

For a valuation appeal, use the appeal date in the tax and filing section above. Keep your notice, supporting evidence, and proof of submission.
