Exemption filing

April 30, 2026 for the Sussex County over-65 exemption application; the county form requires the applicant to be 65+ by April 30 and meet the residency, income, ownership, and tax-clearance rules.

Senior relief

Sussex County's over-65 exemption requires a primary-residence owner who is at least 65, has been a full-time Sussex County resident for at least five years, and has annual income no higher than $6,000 single or $7,500 married excluding specified Social Security/Railroad benefits. The 2025 county ordinance and current form provide a maximum $229,000 reduction from assessed value; all county taxes, fees, and sewer charges must be paid before the April 30 deadline.
