Tax bills & filing dates

These are the dates and qualifications recorded in the directory. Confirm your tax year and current deadline with the official office and your property’s notice.

Payment deadline
2026 Texas property taxes are due upon receipt of the tax statement and generally become delinquent after January 31, 2027 (February 1, 2027); installment and local statutory exceptions may apply.
Assessment appeal
May 15, 2026 or the 30th day after the notice of appraised value was delivered, whichever is later; Atascosa CAD's official home page repeats this 2026 protest rule.

Exemptions & appeals

Exemption filing

April 30, 2026 for most property-tax exemptions and special-appraisal applications. A qualifying residence-homestead owner may late-file up to two years after the taxes become delinquent; age-65-or-older and disabled applicants have additional statutory late-filing rules.

Senior relief

Texas provides residence-homestead exemptions for qualifying owners age 65 or older or disabled, including an additional school-district exemption; qualifying school-tax amounts generally receive a tax-ceiling/freeze. County and other taxing units may provide additional relief. File with the appraisal district.

Valuation limits

A qualifying residence homestead's appraised value is generally capped at the lesser of market value or the prior year's appraised value plus 10% and new improvements. Texas has no general cap for all property; 2026 special-valuation cap rates are 10.00% for agricultural/open-space land and 7.77% for timberland.

For a valuation appeal, use the appeal date in the tax and filing section above. Keep your notice, supporting evidence, and proof of submission.
