Exemptions & appeals
View exemption application (opens in a new tab)Exemption filing
Tennessee has no general homestead exemption filing; for the 2026 Property Tax Relief program, apply through the county trustee when the 2026 bill arrives and no later than 35 days after the March 1, 2027 delinquency date (April 5, 2027), with taxes paid by the deadline.
Senior relief
Tennessee Property Tax Relief is available to qualifying low-income elderly and disabled homeowners, disabled veterans, and surviving spouses; it is a state reimbursement rather than an exemption. Applications are filed with the county trustee or city collecting official. The official 2026 Tennessee Tax Freeze jurisdiction list does not list this county as adopting a countywide tax freeze; city programs, if any, must be checked locally.
Valuation limits
No general Tennessee valuation-increase cap is published by the Comptroller. After reappraisal, Tennessee requires a revenue-neutral certified tax rate for existing property (excluding new construction and improvements); county/city governing bodies may change local rates. Greenbelt and other classification rules may apply to qualifying property.
For a valuation appeal, use the appeal date in the tax and filing section above. Keep your notice, supporting evidence, and proof of submission.
