Exemption filing

March 1, 2026 for most local exemptions; Putnam County publishes county exemption applications, including RPTL §467 senior-citizen forms, and directs applicants to the applicable town assessor.

Senior relief

Putnam County offers the RPTL §467 senior-citizen exemption for eligible homeowners age 65 or older, with income limits and benefit levels set through the applicable local assessor; the county also links New York's Enhanced STAR program.

Valuation limits

New York's property-tax cap limits the annual levy of participating local governments and most school districts to the lower of 2% or inflation, with override provisions; it is not an individual parcel assessed-value cap. Local assessors apply uniform-assessment rules under New York Real Property Tax Law.

For a valuation appeal, use the appeal date in the tax and filing section above. Keep your notice, supporting evidence, and proof of submission.
