Tax bills & filing dates

These are the dates and qualifications recorded in the directory. Confirm your tax year and current deadline with the official office and your property’s notice.

Tax bill mailing
NYC bills are generally mailed and posted about one month before the due date; 2026 fiscal-year due dates are July 1, October 1, 2026, and January 1, April 1, 2027.
Payment deadline
Quarterly bills are due July 1, October 1, January 1, and April 1; semiannual bills are due July 1 and January 1. The interest-free grace date for quarterly payments is the 15th of the month.

Exemption filing

March 15, 2026 for NYC SCHE and STAR exemption applications; other NYC property-tax benefits have program-specific deadlines.

Senior relief

NYC Senior Citizen Homeowners' Exemption (SCHE) is available to qualifying owners age 65 or older with combined household income of $58,399 or less and can reduce assessed value by up to 50%; apply by March 15. Enhanced STAR is administered by New York State.

Valuation limits

New York City does not participate in the state property-tax levy cap. NYC assessed-value limits are class-specific: Tax Class 1 is limited to 6% annually and 20% over five years; small Tax Class 2a/2b/2c buildings are limited to 8% annually and 30% over five years; Tax Classes 2 and 4 generally use transitional assessed values.
