Exemption filing

March 1, 2026 for most local exemptions, including homestead/senior/veteran applications; file with the applicable city, town, or village assessor. New STAR applicants register for the NYS STAR credit rather than a new local STAR exemption.

Senior relief

2026 Enhanced STAR: primary residence, one resident owner age 65+ by December 31, and combined income of resident owners and resident spouses of $110,750 or less. Basic STAR income limits are $500,000 for the credit and $250,000 for the exemption. The local senior-citizens exemption may reduce assessed value by up to 50%, subject to the municipality's income limit; apply through the local assessor.
