- For the 2026 tax year, Cape Girardeau County taxes are due December 31, 2026; the Collector’s official page states mailed payments should bear a timely December 31 postmark and provides online/in-person payment options.
- Assessment appeal
- July 13, 2026 (second Monday in July statutory county Board of Equalization filing deadline; county-specific 2026 BOE notice was not published in the official sources reviewed). The Missouri State Tax Commission complaint deadline is September 30, 2026, or within 30 days after the county Board of Equalization decision, whichever is later.

Senior relief
Cape Girardeau County’s official 2026 Homestead Tax Credit page describes Proposition A (SB 190/SB 756 senior credit) for county residents age 62 or older who own and occupy a primary residence and are liable for the taxes. The 2026 application period closed June 30, 2026; credits appear on the November tax statement and exclude specified debt/new-construction items.
Valuation limits
No general local annual valuation cap was verified. Cape Girardeau’s Proposition A senior and Proposition B general homestead programs limit specified increases in tax liability, not assessed or market value; new construction, improvements, delinquent taxes, and excluded levies remain subject to the official program rules.
