Tax bill mailing
Kent County states local current taxes are billed July 1 and December 1; exact mailing dates are set by the local city/township treasurer.
Payment deadline
2026 Michigan property-tax schedule: summer taxes are due September 14, 2026 unless a city charter provides a different date; late summer taxes accrue 1% monthly interest from September 15. Winter taxes are due and payable December 1, 2026, with the local unit/charter controlling the final penalty date. Unpaid 2025 taxes are returned to the county treasurer as delinquent on March 2, 2026 because March 1 is Sunday; the county adds a 4% administration fee and 1% monthly interest. Assessment appeal
2026 assessment appeals are filed with the city or township Board of Review. The organizational meeting is March 3, 2026; appeal meetings begin March 9, 2026, with a permitted local alternative on March 10 or 11; the March Board must finish by April 6, 2026. A county-equalization appeal to the Michigan Tax Tribunal is generally due within 35 days after county adoption of the equalization report. Local meeting times and petition procedures vary.

Exemption filing

File Michigan Form 2368 Principal Residence Exemption Affidavit with the local city/township assessor by June 1, 2026 for the summer levy or November 1, 2026 for the winter levy. Late claims may be handled by the assessor under Michigan law.

Senior relief

Michigan has no single countywide senior exemption identified in the official sources reviewed. Eligible senior citizens and other statutory categories may apply to the local city/township treasurer for summer-tax deferment using Form 471; the state requires filing with the local treasurer by the designated deadline. Qualified homeowners or renters may also claim the Michigan Homestead Property Tax Credit.

Valuation limits

Michigan Proposal A taxable-value cap: for 2026, the State Tax Commission inflation-rate multiplier is 1.027 (2.7%). The capped-value formula is (2025 taxable value minus losses) × 1.027 + additions, subject to the statutory 5% ceiling. A transfer of ownership generally uncaps taxable value in the following year; additions, losses, and statutory exceptions also apply.
