Tax bills & filing dates

These are the dates and qualifications recorded in the directory. Confirm your tax year and current deadline with the official office and your property’s notice.

Payment deadline
For 2026, summer property taxes are generally due September 14, 2026 and winter property taxes February 14, 2027; local city/township/village charters may set different dates. Current-year taxes are generally collected by the local unit until March 1, 2027, when unpaid taxes are returned to the county treasurer as delinquent.
Assessment appeal
Appeal first to the local city/township/village Board of Review during its March 2026 meeting period; the local assessment notice and unit schedule control. No single countywide 2026 protest date was published. Further Michigan Tax Tribunal deadlines depend on classification and the applicable statutory filing date.

Exemptions & appeals

Exemption filing

For the 2026 tax year, file Michigan Form 2368 Principal Residence Exemption Affidavit with the local city or township assessor by June 1, 2026 for the summer levy or November 1, 2026 for the winter levy; local-unit instructions control.

Senior relief

Michigan Form 471 summer-tax deferment may be available to a qualifying principal-residence owner age 62 or older, or a qualifying disabled, veteran, blind, or surviving-spouse claimant, subject to statutory income and other requirements; apply to the local city/township treasurer by its deadline. Qualified owners or renters may also qualify for the Michigan Homestead Property Tax Credit. No county-specific senior exemption was verified.

Valuation limits

Michigan Proposal A generally caps taxable-value growth at the lower of inflation or 5% until a transfer of ownership uncaps the taxable value. For 2026 the State Tax Commission multiplier is 1.027: 2026 capped value = (2025 taxable value − losses) × 1.027 + additions. The cap does not limit SEV/market-value appraisal; transfers, additions, new construction, omitted property, and other statutory adjustments can change the calculation.

For a valuation appeal, use the appeal date in the tax and filing section above. Keep your notice, supporting evidence, and proof of submission.
