Tax bills & filing dates
These are the dates and qualifications recorded in the directory. Confirm your tax year and current deadline with the official office and your property’s notice.
- Tax bill mailing
- Third week of January 2027 (approximately); Rio Grande County's official Treasurer page states tax notices are mailed during the third week of January.
- Payment deadline
- For 2026 property taxes payable in 2027: first half due February 28, 2027; full payment due April 30, 2027; second half due June 15, 2027. Rio Grande County states delinquent interest is charged at 1% per month after missed deadlines.
- Assessment appeal
- May 1 through June 8, 2026 under Colorado's current standard real-property protest period; the official assessor page reviewed did not publish a separate 2026 cutoff.

Senior relief
Rio Grande County's official Treasurer information states that qualifying seniors receive, when funded, 50% of the first $200,000 of actual value of the primary residence. Colorado eligibility generally requires age 65+ as of January 1, 10 years of ownership, and 10 years of primary-residence occupancy; approved applicants generally need not reapply unless circumstances change.
