Tax bills & filing dates

These are the dates and qualifications recorded in the directory. Confirm your tax year and current deadline with the official office and your property’s notice.

Tax bill mailing
By October 31, 2026; Lake County's official tax page states secured property tax bills are mailed by October 31.
Payment deadline
For the 2026-27 secured roll, the first installment is due November 1, 2026 and delinquent after 5:00 p.m. December 10, 2026; the second installment is due February 1, 2027 and delinquent after 5:00 p.m. April 10, 2027. If a delinquency date falls on a weekend or holiday, the next business day applies.
Assessment appeal
Regular California assessment appeal period: July 2 through September 15, 2026 if the county assessor mailed assessed-value notices by August 1; otherwise July 2 through November 30, 2026. Supplemental or escape assessment appeals are generally due within 60 days of the notice or bill.

Exemption filing

February 15, 2026 for a timely full California Homeowners' Exemption claim; late claims can receive reduced relief subject to state rules. File BOE-266 with the county assessor.

Senior relief

Latest published State Controller program (2025-26): age 62+, blind or disabled; principal residence; household income at or below $55,181; at least 40% equity; and other requirements. The 2025-26 filing period closed February 10, 2026; postponed taxes accrue 5% simple interest and are secured by a lien. Proposition 19 may allow qualifying base-year-value transfers for older or disabled homeowners.

Valuation limits

California Proposition 13 generally limits annual increases in a property's factored base-year value to 2% or the inflation factor, whichever is lower; changes in ownership and new construction generally trigger reappraisal. Decline-in-value Proposition 8 properties are not limited to the 2% increase while below factored base-year value.
